Phaedra

Established and based in the South West of England, Phaedra specialises in kiln fired glass art.

Here at her studio you can see Phaedra creating her eye catching contemporary works in glass. Exploring varying degrees of colour, tones and textures with her unique innovative designs, Phaedra's glass will enhance any setting making  your home, garden or workplace feel truly special.

"My initial interest in glass was born after having visited the Guggenheim Museum in New York. Been completely blown away by the glass panels made by Tiffany, I became determined to work in the creative world of glass."

"Much of my inspiration comes from my Welsh/Greek childhood. Hours of playing in the mountains of Snowdonia amongst the subtle tones of the heathers, wild grasses and the beautiful lichen and moss covered rocks and then annual holidays to the bright and colourful country of Greece with it's vivid turquoise sea and amazing sunsets. I am inclined to look at nature (the best artist of all) for my inspiration."

"This commission was complex and demanding. Phaedra excelled in every aspect of the work. She attended many staff meetings to discuss the ideas for the work, developed a highly successful community art strategy with three local schools and local voluntary groups, and then mediated the images from this community development phase into an extraordinary work in two parts that tells the 'story of Tewkesbury' and enhances the external courtyard. The public feedback on the works has been fantastic- overwhelmingly positive"

"I can highly recommend Phaedra. When working with us she was very receptive to our initial ideas and was able to incorporate them into the process needed in her art. Phaedra suggested very appropriate activities during the workshops which matched the abilities of our children's varied range of needs and she was also very able to work alongside members of staff at all levels of seniority in the school."

Working as a Lead Creative Practitioner and within the Literacy Curriculum, my 22 students and  I looked at some local folk tales, their geographical importance and how the lives of the students themselves relate to the history and topography of the locality. The creative learning process culminated in a glass installation designed and made by the students.
